Ceramics

Ceramics

Each piece handmade and unique in my little studio at my little Geraldton beach house.  I can loose myself for hours hand building or throwing clay on my wheel.

The week drying time, then the magic of glaze and firing has certainly taught me to slow down and enjoy the process.  I feel so grounded with my hands covered in clay.

Gelato

On going from November 2021

The Gelato series came about from the fun use of colour. From pouring, to layering, using my knife, brushed and fingers this is always a fun series for me to add to.

I'm transported to dreamy days spent on the beach, summer vibes, childhood icecreams, colours, fun & laughter.

Each edition is in a different colour palette but sitting well together in the series.

Persian Carpet

November 2022

I've always loved vintage Persian carpets, it's the aged colours that captured my imagination as a child.  I can stare into the weave and see the colour go from faded to rich deep down into the woven threads. Just imagining the endless stories the rugs could tell if only they could.

Whilst painting this collection a deep memory was triggered as I stared through the ridges and pits created by the dragging of the paint across the previously dried layer. Endless layers of colours applied with my palette knife, the hours and days of building the thousand upon thousands of paint marks reminded me of the thousand upon thousand of threads in the old Persian carpets i had wandered at as a child.

Each painting so different yet has a similarity as they flow from one to another.

Salt Cave

Salt Cave

May 2023

This abstract collection came from creative thought. Layering colours and shapes to create an underground world in a salt cave. The soft colours and reflections from the surfaces of rock and minerals as a flash light reveals the unseen.  Allowing my brushes to flow and slowly build up textures.
